Matter one: a contentious senior exit
In the UAE, a regional head’s departure from a multinational turned contentious after it strayed from the expected process, and he took the company to the labour court. Because the company sponsored his residence visa, every step of his exit ran through it, and the dispute tied its hands.
Matter two: travel bans
In a separate matter, during a financial investigation, several employees were placed under travel bans and could not leave the country.
Who wanted what
- The regional head wanted the exit on his terms, and used the court to press for it.
- The company wanted no lawsuit, no risk of being blacklisted, and no lasting exposure in the region.
- The employees under travel bans wanted, above all, to get home.
- The authorities, in both matters, needed their processes followed, case by case.
The one priority, in both
Resolve each person’s position cleanly, with no permanent risk left behind.
What a standard playbook would have done
Fight the labour claim in court, and leave the travel bans to slow legal proceedings. Months of hearings, a blacklisting risk, and people stuck in the country while it played out.
What we did
- Matter one: researched the internal history in depth to understand what had actually gone wrong in the exit.
- Matter one: found the leverage and pressure points that brought every party to the table, and negotiated a handshake exit that closed the lawsuit and the blacklisting risk together.
- Matter two: worked through the travel bans person by person, with local lawyers and the relevant authorities.
- Matter two: activated the right people at each step, without drawn-out legal proceedings or other consequences.
The outcome
The exit closed by agreement and the company kept a clean record in the region. In the second matter, every employee under a travel ban returned home safely.
